Mill Creek Towne Pool is proud to be the home of the Marlin Swim Team. The Marlins offer a level of competition for all abilities for children ages 5-18. Mill Creek Towne is in C division for the 2019 season.
We are excited to have Coach Dave back for his 22nd summer at MCT and we have Katie Sweeney, former MCT swimmer and JR coach, returning to the team as Assistant Coach. We are also accepting applications for JR Assistant coaches.
Dave Kraft has coached the Marlins since 1997 and is not only well regarded in the Montgomery County Swim League (MCSL) but also nationally as the National Training Group Coach at Rockville Montgomery Swim Club – Olney (RMSC). Click here to see Coach Dave’s complete bio.
As a member of the MCT Marlins, the swimmer will be coached to become proficient and legal in all 4 strokes (free, back, fly and breast). For children that aren’t quite up to the challenge of competitive swimming, we have the Mini Marlins Program to groom them to move up to the Marlins Swim Team. In most cases, they are ready to move up to the Marlins Team by the last swim meet.
The Marlins compete in The Montgomery County Swim League (MCSL). MCSL sponsors competitive swimming and other activities among the swimming pools and organizations in Montgomery County, Maryland. The goals of the program include helping young people establish a love for the sport of swimming, advanced aquatic skills, teamwork, and the principles of good sportsmanship.
The season consists of five weeks of dual team meets (5 A Meets and 5 B Meets), 2 Relay Carnivals (1 A Relay Carnival and 1 B Relay Carnival), 1 Divisional Meet, 1 All Star Meet, and 1 Coaches Long Course Meet. The A Meet, A Relay Carnival, Divisional Meet, All Star and Coaches Long Course lineups are made up of the swimmers from the team with the fastest seed/qualifying times in events, while all swimmers compete in the B meets and B Relay Carnival.
Swimmers compete by gender (Male/Female) and age (8 & under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-18) and are grouped into heats based on their best previous time for that event. A swimmer can swim in a maximum of 3 individual events (free, back, fly or breast), 1 individual medley (IM – all 4 strokes), and 1 relay for a total of 5 events in any 1 week (may be split over A and B Meets).
The swim team season runs from the Tuesday after Memorial Day until late July. Swim meets are held on Saturday Mornings @ 9:00 AM (A meets) and Wednesday Evenings @ 6:00 PM (B Meets). Team members can choose between morning and evening practice times. Meet and practice schedules can be found on the Marlins Swim and Dive Website.
